Almost Ready

We have 17 days till practice starts and the guys are very fired up to get going.  We as coaches are ready also.  It always takes some time to organize how you want your practices to go and to get plenty of work in and at the same time let everyone have their opportunity to show what they can do.

I am ready for a fun weekend this week.  Every year my 3 college roommates and I go to an Iowa Hawkeye football game.  This is our weekend.  One of the guys can’t go, but Al Anderson, who lives in Des Moines, has an RV and we go a night early and prepare for the tailgating the next morning.  Our Hawks to this point, are not real good.  I think it will be tough to go 4-4 in the Big Ten.

I love my job as I feel I don’t work a day in my life.  I love my job, but the worst part of my job really takes a lot of work.  The worst part is scheduling.  Now that we are down to 8 schools in our league, we have to get 11 non conference games.  It is very difficult to get all these games to work out.  It takes a lot of phone time and wait time on other teams making decisions.  I am almost done for next year, but still a ways to go.  Every school has their own agenda.

A New Season Starts

It has been awhile since I have blogged on a regular basis, as last year I had Athletic Director duties, and now as the new year starts and those duties have vanished, it is time to stay on track and let our fans know what is going on around here.

We are very excited to start again this year, as we have 12 new players in our program and a new assistant coach.  We have a lot of guys in our program now, as there are 29 on the team at this point.  6 seniors.  4 juniors.  7 sophomores.  12 freshmen
I will have a profile of our freshmen at a later time.

Our guys have been led by our seniors in workouts at this time, as Ron Thomson, our strength and conditioning coach took another job last month.  We miss Ron, as our guys were close to him, but we will get another person in here very soon.  We have good leadership and a lot of good talent to make this a very good season for us.

Jon Millea is our new assistant.  He graduated from BVU in 2009, and has been with 2 different college programs over the last 3 years.  He is excited to be back in our program and has done a tremendous job for us so far.  This is a heavy recruiting time for us right now, and we are trying to get a lot of phone calls done and getting in some campus visits.  It is a busy time for Jon and I, but we are having fun.

My family is doing very well.  Courtney is a sophomore this year at BVU, and is playing volleyball.  Barb and I have made quite a few trips already this year to watch her play.  Jayson is a senior and running cross country.  Just so you know, that is work.  Running 3.1 miles and keeping a high pace is very tough.  I am glad I didn’t run that sport.  However, he is doing well and running good times this year.  It is homecoming week for him this week, and it is always fun for the kids to be involved.  I have this orange jump suit that is an actual prison uniform, and I have worn it a time or two at Halloween. (There are orange shoes to go with it) Jayson wore it yesterday for one of his days during Homecoming Week.  I have determined he would be a bad fit for a jail cell.  Thank God on that front.

Anyway I must go as we have a short meeting to go over our fundraiser for the fall.  The guys will have plenty of BVU basketball gear to sell in the next week, so parents be prepared to get out the check book again.  It never ends does it.  My kids take more money from me.  I am not sure where it goes, or where it has been.

Go Beavers!!
